Azerbaijani tourist sector profit amounts to AZN 8 million

Over the first six months of 2009, profits of Azerbaijani tourist sector increased by 1% as compared to relevant period of 2008.

The State Statistics Committee of Azerbaijan informed that over the first half of 2009 AZN 8 million of profits was received from tourist activity in the country.

โ€œOut of them AZN 6.2 million was got directly from tourist services. AZN 7.9 million of total income fell on the share of the capital,โ€ it was informed.

Total worth of permits increased by 29.4% and amounted to AZN 5.7 million.

โ€œOver this period, 15,000 permits were sold to the tourists that exceeds by 4.4% index of similar period of the last year, including 14,300 ones (95.3%) were sold for journeys to the foreign country,โ€ it was informed.

Over this period, tourist organizations accepted 7,900 tourists and sent 21,200 tourists.

98.3% of tourist establishments, functioning in Azerbaijan, belong to private sector.

In 2009, state budget allocated for sector of culture and tourism by 11.7% more than last year and budget expenditures of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism increased 3.7 fold as compared to 2006. Investments in construction, restoration and engineering grew 8 fold.

Number of countryโ€™s tourists in 2008 as compared to 2007, rose by 39.4% and made up 1.4 million people.
