A 6.0 earthquake struck the Kuril Islands region in Russia today at 07:45 UTC. It was followed by a second quake at 4.5 magnitude.
The epicenter of the quake was located 138.6 km (86.1 miles) north of Severo-Kurilโsk with a population of 2,422.
Most of the population lives in structures that can withstand earthquake shaking. Some do liver in adobe block and brick/mud dwellings that would be more prone to damage.
However, structure losses and fatalities are not being anticipated, according to the USGS.
