Stéphane Fouassin is the man behind the IRT (Reunion Island Tourism). He is the President of the Board of Directors of the IRT (Reunion Island Tourism) and the Mayor of Salazie.
He is facing his challenges in stride. Reunion is part of the Indian Ocean Vanilla Islands along with Seychelles, Mauritius, Madagascar, Comoros and Mayotte and is working to reposition tourism in Reunion which was not seen as a priority in the pre-Didier Robert era. The island’s tourism industry was also shaken by successive crises related to the attacks of sharks and a general slowdown in the economy. Stéphane Fouassin is working with the Team at the IRT to consolidate key source markets to bring more diversity in the clientele base for the island.
One of his targeted plan is to move on South Africa where Air Austral is already providing the air service between Reunion and Johannesburg. Reunion has been know to be the Switzerland of the Indian Ocean because of its majestic mountains. This natural attraction, now declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is unique to Reunion.
