Africa Tourism Partners and its Africa Tourism Leadership Forum strategic partners announced the first-ever Africa Tourism Leadership Awards.

Africa Tourism Partners and its Africa Tourism Leadership Forum (ATLF) strategic partners are excited to announce the first-ever Africa Tourism Leadership Awards (ATLA). These Awards will be presented on 31 August 2018 in Accra, Ghana. These are Pan-African tourism leadership awards that seek to recognize leadership, change-makers, excellence and innovation in Africaโ€™s tourism sector. It is anticipated to be the ultimate Pan-African tourism industry public-private sector networking event in Africa.

The Awards will be judged by a committee of renowned African and global tourism experts including academics and audited by Grant Thornton. The co-Chair persons of the Committee are Ms. Judy Kepner-Gona, Executive Director of Sustainable Travel and Tourism Agenda, Kenya and Prof. Marina Novelli, Professor of Tourism and International Development and Academic Lead for the Responsible Futures Agenda at the University of Brighton, UK. Kepner-Gona and Novelli have made it a priority that the committee pays particular attention and recognition to nominees operating in Africa who are progressive, innovative and/or demonstrated unparalleled leadership through sustainability in tourism policy development and practices. โ€œWe invite nominations from countries, tourist destinations, organizations, individuals, entrepreneurs and/or small enterprises, with these attributes to either self-nominate or be nominated by others for these awards,โ€ says Judy Kepner-Gona.

The Awards categories are:

โ€ข Leading in Progressive Policiesโ€™ Award
โ€ข Outstanding Entrepreneurship Award
โ€ข Women in Leadership Award
โ€ข Most Innovative Business Tourism Destination Award
โ€ข Outstanding Accommodation Facility / Group Award
โ€ข Outstanding Tourism Transportation Award
โ€ข Outstanding Africa Tourism Media Award
โ€ข Championing Sustainability Award

โ€œAll nominees must be engaged in outstanding tourism work that has measurable socio-economic impact on the ground and enhances the value of โ€˜Brand Africa.โ€™ Nominations should be supported by a web and/or social media presence links. All submissions will need to be focused on not more than five (5) key points that will demonstrate leadership,โ€ highlights Professor Novelli.

โ€ข Announcement of Nominations โ€“ August 10, 2018.
โ€ข Announcement of winners at Awards Dinner โ€“ Friday, August 31, 2018 in Accra, Ghana.

The Africa Tourism Leadership Forum (ATLF) is a Pan-African dialogue platform that brings together key stakeholders from Africaโ€™s travel, tourism, hospitality and aviation sectors to network, share insights and devise strategies for sustainable travel and tourism development across the continent, while enhancing Brand Africaโ€™s equity. ATLF is the first of its kind and aims at promoting tourism as a major sustainable development pillar and core socio-economic diversification factor for African destinations. The Forum is being hosted by the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) under the auspices of the Ghana Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, the event will take place on 30 and 31 August, at the Accra International Convention Centre.

This event is supported by the African Tourism Board.
