Philip Jones, General Manager at the hotel said, “Our team has put in a tremendous effort over the last year to generate incremental savings and this recognition is a testament to their hard work. We are looking forward to achieving even better results in 2019, as the hotel has committed to a multi-million dirham investment toward the latest generation of energy saving equipment.”

Energy and water saving reduction targets were set at 2% for 2017 in line with sustainability management goals. A BMS controls air conditioning temperatures and timers regulate outdoor lighting while motion sensors are installed in public toilets and back of house corridors. The hotel has also focused on maintenance projects that offer long lasting solutions. A lobby sliding door was replaced with a revolving door to minimize energy usage and the resultant costs of cooling incoming hot air. In addition, the hotel prefers to replace electrical equipment and appliances with energy-star rated devices and continues to replace conventional lighting with LEDs in guest rooms and public corridors.

To reduce water consumption, water tap aerators have been installed in all guest rooms and public areas. Sensors have also been fitted on taps in public bathrooms and waterless urinals installed.

The hotel also annually invests in carbon emission offsetting by authorized companies and organisations which support renewable energy options.

A comprehensive waste management plan is in place and waste is disposed of through Dulsco, a company specializing in general waste, recycling and other garbage. Used light tubes, old printer cartridges and spent batteries are all recycled, even kitchen cooking oil is recycled. As part of its reuse policy, old furniture and materials are used again wherever possible while old linen and bed sheets are reused for cleaning purposes. In line with the property’s environmental policy, waste recycling and waste management procedures extend also to hotel and staff accommodation facilities.

The Movenpick Hotel Jumeirah Beach Green Team are actively involved in various social initiatives to support the local community. Staff participated in a Can Collection Campaign and worked together at the annual Clean Up UAE initiative. In appreciation of older generations, elderly residents were invited to dine in The Talk Restaurant.

The hotel’s Sustainability Management Plan 2018 is available on its website movenpick.com.
