Cuban tourism industry awarded in Argentina


Havana – Cuba’s tourism industry received a Mention and a Certificate of Honor for being the best pavilion of the Caribbean region participating in the International Tourism Fair of Latin America (FIT) taking place in Argentina.

Cuban Tourism Promotion and Information Office accompanied Venezuela and the Guatemalan Institute of Tourism in that category, this last one obtained the first prize for second consecutive time.

The best reward was the outstanding number of visitors who passed through our facilities, the director of that office for the South Cone Mario Ramos Alvarez told Prensa Latina.

He added that 2008 is going on so far, with an economic growth of more than the 20 percent in the first quarter. This, in addition to important negotiations with Cubana de Aviation open up new horizons for 2009, he said.

Alvarez noted that around 38,000 Argentine tourists traveled to Cuba in 2007, which surpassed the number of travelers in the previous year (30, 300). He hope this figure will further increase during the current year.

On December, the representative office of Havanatur S.A. in Argentina won the Gold Bitacora Award as Cuba’s Best Tour Operator, and Sol y Son Cubana de Aviacion’s tour agency received a Silver Bitacora.

Cuba was also granted Bronze Bitacora Award to the Best Promoted Foreign Tourist Destination, while Mexico obtained Gold and Brazil Silver Bitácora Awards.

FIT’s organizers considered the event as the fifth most important fair worldwide and the first one in Latin America.
