North-east business travellers are to get an improved choice of services due to the expansion of a UK regional airline.

Eastern Airways is increasing its flights from Aberdeen to Newcastle, Southampton and Leeds Bradford airports.

From March 3 weekday services to Newcastle will rise from five to six flights a day while services to Southampton and Leeds Bradford will increase from three a day to four.

A new 50 seat Saab 2000 aircraft will boost seat capacity by 60% between Aberdeen and Newcastle, and by 35% between Aberdeen and Southampton.

Graeme Ross, Eastern Airways’ Scotland director said: “We’ve provided the business community with a comprehensive network of routes from Aberdeen for many years and this latest expansion demonstrates our commitment to providing the best business schedules to and from the Grampian region.”

Aberdeen Airport managing director Kevin Brown, said: “This is a very welcome announcement.

“More flights to these important destinations means more choice and more flexibility for those flying out of Aberdeen for business and leisure.”
