Seychelles swears in Ugandan Frederick Egonda-Ntende as new chief justice

Mr. Frederick Egonda-Ntende has been sworn into office as the chief justice of the Seychelles Supreme Court of Justice in a ceremony at the State House in the Seychelles capital city of Victoria Friday morning. The event was witnessed and signed by Seychelles President James A. Michel.

President Michel has expressed his congratulations to the chief justice after taking up his post. He has stated that he looks forward to an excellent working relationship between the Executive and the Judiciary Branches.

The president has reiterated his call for all parties to work together for the renewal of this important branch of the state, in line with the theme of โ€œKoste Seselwa.โ€

Frederick Egonda-Ntende has significant experience in the reform of judicial systems and the computerization of case administration systems. He was also involved in the setting up of an independent judiciary in East Timor, where he served as a judge of the Court of Appeal.

Mr. Egonda-Ntende lectured Law at Makere University in Uganda and was the chairperson of the Law Reporting Committee of the Judiciary in Uganda. He also has extensive experience in dealing with matters of drug trafficking while working as a judge in the United Nations Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK).
