Hainan Airlines has applied to the US DOT and Hawaii DOT to operate scheduled flights from China to Hawaii.

Hainan Airlines has applied to the US DOT and Hawaii DOT to operate scheduled flights from China to Hawaii. Hainan, China’s largest privately-owned airline, announced on Thursday that it hopes to begin nonstop service between Beijing and Honolulu sometime in the fall 2009. As demand builds on the route, Hainan Airlines expects to increase frequency to three weekly flights.

Hainan plans on using Airbus A340-600 planes on the new route and – if approved – will be the first commercial airline to operate scheduled nonstop service between People’s Republic of China and Hawaii.
