La Palm Royal Beach Hotel and Elmina Beach Resort, two of the three Golden Beach Hotels in Ghana, in accordance with its tradition of playing host to very important dignitaries such as former President George W. Bush and his wife; Mr. Horst Kohler, Federal President of Germany; and former President Thabo Mbeki of South Africa; among other high-profile personalities, has once again hosted a world legend.

Golden Beach Hotels Limited was once again called upon to play an important role in the historic visit of the first black American President of the United State of America, Barack Obama to Ghana.

La Palm was, this time around, pleased to play host to the over 148 White House Press Corps, as well as other international media men and women from CNN, NBC News, Sky News, Washington Post, Fox News, Agence France-Press (AFP), ANSA Italian News Agency, Associated Press, Time Magazine, and Reuters among others, who were in the country to cover the historic visit.

La Palmโ€™s world-class conference facilities provided a press and filing center, a transmission center, and interview locations.

President Obama chose to reach out to the rest of the continent through Ghana because of a number of reasons, including its rich historical antecedent, democratic credentials, and the peaceful and hospitable nature of Ghanaians, among others.

As part of his visit, President Obama toured the Cape Coast slave castle in the central region of Ghana, which is just a ten-minute drive from Elmina Beach Resort, one of three Golden Beach Hotels. Elmina Beach Resort also played host to members of the presidentโ€™s entourage, as well as media men and women who were stationed in the central region.

Michelle Obama is believed to be a great-great-granddaughter of one of the slaves from west Africa, shipped to the New World, and that was an opportunity for her to connect with her past. The Cape Coast Castle is one of many forts and castles dotted along the shores of Ghana with a very rich history of Ghanaโ€™s colonial and pre-colonial past.

Again, Golden Beach Hotels Ghana Limited was pleased to offer its uniquely “Golden,” traditionally Ghanaian hospitality to the entourage of President Barack Obama.
