This year, the company again invites home cooks, bakers, and culinary enthusiasts to submit their original lard-inspired recipes that shine a spotlight on the deep, traditional flavors lard brings to everything from savory dishes to those that are sweet.
VIVA Lard, a Coast Packing brand that has been enjoyed by Hispanic kitchens for over 45 years, really is the best ingredient for adding that little extra flavor to breads, making pie crusts crumbly, and giving that rich, authentic flavor to whatever dish you are whipping up. Lard is valued for its very high melting point and extremely low moisture content, making this one of the favorite ingredients of bakers who aim for perfectly flaky pastry and pie crusts.
This year the contest is divided into two categories, but one thing remains the same: it’s going to be sweet and savory. Whether it’s pastries, cookies, or savory pies, Coast wants to see recipes that honor the deliciously satisfying qualities of lard in baking and cooking. Winners will be chosen by a panel of judges including Corporate Chef Greg Hozinsky, and prizes are top-of-the-line kitchen items like a KitchenAid Stand Mixer and Le Creuset Dutch Oven.
All applicants need to do is to submit their original recipe with lard as one of the ingredients, the list of ingredients, instructions in detail, and picture of the finished dish.

Eligibility: Openly available to people who reside in the United States and are over 21 years old.
