Acknowledging that the tourism industry will play an important role in driving Thailand’s economy, the Deputy Governor for international marketing, Mr. Santichai Euachongprasit, delivered the following welcome speech to the attendees of the Amazing Thailand Road Show to India 2009 in Chennai.

Distinguished guests, stakeholders from the travel and tourism industry, members of the media, ladies and gentlemen,

Namaste, good evening, and sawasdee khrap.

It is indeed an honor to be here this evening to preside over the opening of the Amazing Thailand Road Show to India 2009, as well as to welcome our friends from the tourism industry of India.

As we are all aware, the tourism industry will be one of the mega-industries of this century and will be a key factor to initiate income and drive a countryโ€™s economy forward. As such, those involved within tourism need to be continuously updated on ways to strategically encourage visitors to their respective countries to experience the diverse range of products and services on offer through their promotional campaigns.

For Thailand, this year we are achieving this through our sub-themes the โ€œSeven Amazing Wonders of Thailandโ€ that come under our campaign, โ€œAmazing Thailand Amazing Value,โ€ that focuses on our country as a value-for-money destination. This eveningโ€™s program will provide you with an in-depth overview about some of Thailandโ€™s tourism products including shopping, theme parks and entertainment, and wellness. All of these products are being promoted in our international markets worldwide and have been initiated in response to shifting global trends as we have recognized that travelers have become more sophisticated and are wanting more unique, healthy, and culturally-rich holidays.

Tourists will also be delighted to know that until March 4, 2010, they will receive an exemption on visa fees at all international airports. Additionally, we know that Indians like shopping, and from now till the end of August, we are holding the Amazing Thailand Grand Sale 2009 in which shoppers can receive discounts of up to eighty percent.

Furthermore, please make a note in your diary for the Travel Agents Federation of Indiaโ€™s Annual Convention in which I would like to thank the Federation for selecting Chiang Mai in the north of Thailand as the venue for this event that will be held during October 22-25 of this year. This will not only be a wonderful opportunity for our country to host stakeholders of the Indian tourism industry, but also allow them a chance to visit and experience major tourist destinations within Thailand and the region. As a result, they will gain further knowledge of our tourism products and services that they will pass onto their clients resulting in increases in the numbers of Indian tourist arrivals.

Ladies and gentlemen, we are working hard to ensure that Thailand remains a top destination of choice for Indian visitors, and with the new branding concept, I am certain that our products will continue to attract the attention of Indian tourist arrivals to our country.

In concluding, once again, thank you very much for being here with us this evening, and we look forward to welcoming you, your families, and your friends in amazing Thailand soon.

Thank you and sawasdee khrap.
