PENANG – An American tourist who arrived at the Penang International Airport on Saturday was taken to the Penang Hospital after he had high fever.

State Health and Caring Society Committee chairman Phee Boon Poh said the precaution was taken because the 46-year-old tourist who flew in from Bangkok displayed one of the symptoms of influenza A (H1N1).

“The man already had high fever in the aeroplane but his condition is reported to be stable,” he said when contacted by Bernama here.

He said the flight from Bangkok touched down at the airport here at 8.45pm and the state health department had been informed earlier to make preparations to take him to the hospital.

The man’s blood sample would be sent to Kuala Lumpur for further tests, he added.

“We are now compiling information on all the other passengers of (Thai Airways International) Flight TG 421 as a precaution for follow-up action in case of any eventuality,” he said.
