IMEX’s choice of industry high achievers and “most admired” colleagues met with rapturous applause last night as a series of Academy Awards, the JMIC Unity Award and the MPI Foundation Student Scholarship Award, were presented to winners at the IMEX Gala Dinner.

Past president of AIPC and AIPC academy chair, Barbara Maple, was presented with the JMIC Unity Award 2009 for her outstanding contribution to the international meetings industry. Click here for more

Estoril Congress Centre wins this year’s IMEX Green Exhibitor Award

Three environmentally-minded destinations were shortlisted for this year’s IMEX Green Exhibitor of the Year Award. Judges ultimately chose Estoril Congress Centre as the winner based on “a concerted effort to think outside the box.” Amy Spatrisano of the Green Meeting Industry Council congratulated all of this year’s entrants and commented, “This year was the hardest yet to make a decision. It was really difficult to choose between the entrants as each exhibitor had their own unique plus points and each had thought through a number of the processes involved in exhibiting, not just their stand design.” Click here for more

Australia dominates IMEX Green Supplier Awards 2009

Australia’s outstanding ability to partner in delivering environmentally-friendly meetings and conventions has been reinforced by the triumph of two Australian convention centers in the IMEX Green Supplier Awards 2009, presented in partnership with the Green Meeting Industry Council (GMIC). Leigh Harry, chief executive of the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre was delighted to accept the Gold Award at the IMEX Gala Dinner last night on behalf of his team. IMEX’s 2009 Green Meeting Award Winner returns for greater glory

An impressive shortlist of entries was reduced to one Gold and one Silver winner after “a great deal of debate” according to judges of this year’s prestigious IMEX Green Meetings Award. Eventual winner, the US Green Building Council (USGBC), was presented with the Gold Award at the IMEX Gala Dinner last night by chairman Ray Bloom. The award was made in recognition of an outstandingly “green” event – the Greenbuild Convention held in Boston in 2008. This is the second time that the council has accepted this honor, having previously triumphed in 2006. Click here for more

Canberra’s Davie wins IMEX- AACB Vin Barron Award 2009

The winner of the 2009 IMEX-AACB Vin Barron Award has been announced as Jemma Davie, business development manager at the Canberra Convention Bureau. The annual award is run by the AACB, the association behind Australia’s business events marketing bureau and is co-sponsored by Qantas. It is designed to foster career development and encourage excellence in the young talent and future leaders who work within Australia’s convention bureaus. The prize was renamed in 2008 in honor of Vin Barron, ex-CEO of Tasmania’s Convention Bureau. Click here for more
