Taiwan Tourism showcases country as ultimate holiday destination

The Taiwan Tourism Bureau attended London’s World Travel Market from November 6-8 in order to showcase Taiwan as an incredible holiday destination and to discuss the focus on sustainable tourism for 2017.

The Tourism Bureau delegation held several meetings over the duration of the show with key partners, media and tour operators in order to explore opportunities to further promote the destination. These meetings also provided the Taiwan Tourism Bureau with the ideal platform to share the successes of the past year with key industry professionals and media.

In 2016, Taiwan welcomed almost 60,000 British tourists and 2017 is set to be even more successful for the UK market. From January to September 2017, 46,648 British tourists visited Taiwan representing a 6.5% increase on the same period in 2016. The UK market remains one of Taiwan’s largest outbound markets in Europe and has grown year-on-year since 2013.

Coupled with this, the past year has seen two new UK tour operators selling Taiwan products, with over fifty operators selling the destination, and five UK tour operators expanding their Taiwan offering. The Tourism Bureau has continued to extend agent reach through involvement with PATA, engaging with key sellers and product managers at the regional PATA quizzes and the Taste of PATA event.

The ‘Taiwan Happy Hour’ was the Tourism Bureau’s most popular ever, with more than 100 visitors to the stand over the course of two hours. Visitors were invited to immerse themselves in Taiwanese culture through delicious cuisine, an appearance from Oh! Bear and musical performances by acapella group Sirens, flown over especially from Taiwan. Four lucky attendees even won dream trips to the destination in the prize giveaway.

In addition to attending WTM, representatives from the Taiwan Tourism Bureau and partners hosted 120 travel trade, agents, and media on an evening cruise along the River Thames on Thursday 9th November to offer key insights into what makes the island such an incredible holiday destination. Alongside a presentation on the country’s unique selling points and one-on-one exposure to delegates from some of Taiwan’s best accommodation and activity specialists, guests were treated to delicious Taiwanese cuisine, further performances by Sirens and four chances to win a trip to Taiwan to experience the destination first-hand.

Finally, the Tourism Bureau also had a presence at Waterloo Station on Friday 10th November to further educate the British public on Taiwan as a holiday destination. The event included appearances from Oh! Bear, performances from Sirens, unique designs from aluminium artist Teng Chia-Ming, a TV screen showcasing videos of the best of Taiwan and free pineapple cake to tempt consumers.

Part of the Taiwan Tourism Bureau delegation for World Travel Market 2017 were China Airlines, China Travel Service (Taiwan), Cross – Strait Sports Tourism Public Welfare Association, Crystal Resort, Edison Travel Service Co.
