Transforming social communities through tourism entrepreneurship

The School of Hospitality and Tourism Management (SHTM) at the University of Jammu in India is organizing the “5th International Conference on Sustainable Destination Excellence: Transforming Social Communities Through Tourism Entrepreneurship” from February 23 to 24, 2018.

Among the themes for the conference are community based tourism, technology, agri-tourism, policy, and peace. The main focus of the conference is to arrive at common approaches and strategies that may be adopted by policy-makers and tourism organizations to achieve sustainability of destinations.

Transformation of communities and societies through entrepreneurship in tourism plays a critical role in fueling economic development. The tourism sector provide immense entrepreneurial opportunities to creatively venture out into new domains of this sector like rural tourism, agricultural tourism, eco-tourism, and special interest tourism.

Some of the invited speakers are Prof. Philip Xie from Bowling Green State University; Prof. V. Nair from the Bahamas; Prof. E. Helmey from Cairo; and Prof. B. Mohammed from Penang, Malaysia.

The SHTM has been organizing similar meetings in earlier years, and selected papers are published so that scholars and practitioners can gain from this knowledge.

The University of Jammu, in Jammu and Kashmir, excels in several fields, including tourism studies.
