The seventh annual Hawaii Food & Wine Festival (HFWF) will raise the bar for featured mixologists with a new competition to crown the next iconic Hawaiian cocktail. The 21st Century Hawaiian Cocktail Competition presented by Bacardi USA challenges mixologists to create an original cocktail that could reach the status of a Mai Tai or Piña Colada.

“The idea of creating the next Mai Tai or Piña Colada is daunting,” says Chandra Lam Lucariello, Director of Mixology & Spirits Education for Southern Glazers Wine & Spirits of Hawaii. “But, it would be a complete honor to have a cocktail of mine share the iconic stature that those have gained. It’s not just creating a cocktail, it is re-creating a feeling of escape and tropical memories.”

The 21st Century Hawaiian Cocktail Competition will take place Saturday, November 4th from 9am-12pm at The Kahala Hotel & Resort. There are a limited number of tickets available for $50. Guests will receive a small sample of each cocktail and can pick their favorite.

Mixologists must use a maximum of five (5) ingredients including Bacardi Rum. Drinks may be stirred, shaken, built or blended. The winner receives $3,000 cash and a trip for two (2) to Bacardi’s portfolio distillery of their choice along with a signature cocktail spotlight. The winning cocktail will be featured at The Kahala Hotel & Resort and other Hawai‘i resort properties.
