Minutes after Delta Airlines Flight 302 from San Juan, Puerto Rico to New York took off at the U.S. Territory the Control Tower at San Juan International Airport was evacuated.
The fully loaded Boeing 737 jet traveled along the outer bands of the storm, got into the clear air and made a safe landing at 4:22 p.m. in at New York’s JFK Airport, more than a half an hour ahead of schedule. Delta staff managed to turn the flight around in San Juan in 52 minutes, making it the last commercial flight in and the last one out of San Juan.
