The exotic Indian Ocean island of Mauritius is upbeat about growth in tourism from India. This island nation and country have strong cultural and historic ties.

A 21-member strong delegation was in India as part of a 4-city road show to Delhi, Bengalru, Chenni, and Mumbai to boost arrivals. Airlines, attractions, hotels, and travel agents were part of the team led by Chairman of the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority (MTPA), Raj V. Bhujohory.

He was confident that arrivals will grow to 100,000 by 2018, and the figure could be 200,000 in the next 5 years.

Among the thrust areas were honeymoon traffic, family holidays, and movie production.

Director Kevin Ramkaloan said that they have streamlined systems, and IT was getting its due importance. Affordable luxury was what the country was offering, he said, adding that many festivals were lined up to attract tourists who could also enjoy surfing and other activities. The MICE market was also being tapped, the director revealed.
