Along the hundreds of kilometers of unspoiled coasts of Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea, a developing project named “Saudi Arabia Vision 2030 Economic Restructuring Plan” is under study. It foresees the construction of luxury resorts spread on the coast and on 50 islands. As is expected, easy visas will be granted to tourists as well as the access to visit archaeological inland sites.

The tourist development project is supported by the hereditary of Prince Mohammed bin Salman to make Arabia less dependent on oil, whose price collapse has caused huge losses.

The facilities, which should be completed by 2022, could attract leisure tourism that is still lacking in Saudi Arabia, which right now is merely a pilgrimage destination to Mecca.

Among the attractions, will first be attention to the natural beauty that already exists – the 200 km of coastline on the Red Sea with coral reefs that are ideal for diving and undersea extinct craters. There are many natural reserves with an interesting fauna, including one of the mainland jewels being the ancient city of Madain Saleh, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
