The Suzhou Museum opens a limited engagement exhibition “Bronzes of Wu, Yue and Chu States” on display now until September 2, 2017. This special viewing complements the permanent collection, which showcases the rich history and culture of Suzhou through a comprehensive exhibition of more than 15,000 pieces, including ancient paintings and calligraphy, ceramics, crafts and historic books and documents.

“Bronzes of Wu, Yue and Chu States” features more than 100 pieces of bronze from the three kingdoms and is divided into four parts: Bronze Weapons, Bronze Ritual Vessels, Bronze Musical Instruments, and Bronze Crafts. The pieces within each sector tell the history of each kingdom from power to collapse and the battles faced during the process, and the collection includes the Sword of King Fuchai, which is considered an exquisite example of weaponry. In 2013, the Suzhou Museum successfully collected 58 bronze weapons of the Wu and Yue Kingdoms, and the overall exhibit has been developed by 22 cultural institutions who have provided support for this exhibition, including The Palace Museum and The Shanghai Museum.

The Suzhou Museum’s portfolio of permanent and limited engagement exhibits are part of the world-class facility that was designed by renowned architect I.M. Pei, who just celebrated his 100th birthday in April 2017. Mr. Pei’s last official masterpiece, the museum is a work of art that houses the area’s past and was built as a tribute to the city where he spent several years as a youth and where his family lived for hundreds of years. The Suzhou Museum is open six days a week, closed on Mondays, and offers free admission to visitors.
