Midwest Airlines has extended a reciprocal frequent flier agreement with Northwest Airlines Corp. to include Delta Air Lines Inc., the parent company of Northwest.
Under the agreement, Oak Creek, Wisc.-based Midwest and Delta frequent fliers will be able to earn or redeem frequent flier miles on either airlineโs network through the Delta SkyMiles, Northwest WorldPerks and Midwest Miles programs. The addition of Deltaโs route system to the previously available Northwest network increases to 379 the number of frequent flier destinations available to Midwest customers, the airlines said Monday.
It is expected that the new codeshare arrangement will go into effect in June, while the frequent flier portion of the agreement will go into effect later this year. Midwestโs codeshare agreement with Northwest will be phased out and replaced with the Delta agreement.
Codeshare agreements allow one airline to book flights under another airlineโs service.
Atlanta-based Delta, the busiest carrier at Dayton International Airport, acquired Eagan, Minn.-based Northwest in October.
