For the second year in a row, El Salvador will attend SurfExpo, one of the most important and specialized international tourism tradeshows held in the U.S. This year’s edition will take place in Orlando, Florida, from January 10-13.

This marks the first of 23 international tradeshows that the El Salvador Ministry of Tourism (MITUR) plans to attend in 2008, represented by the Salvadoran Tourism Corporation (CORSATUR), its executive arm. The goal is to position El Salvador as a world-class tourist destination.

SurfExpo is considered one of the strongest tradeshows in its specialty, which also includes skateboarding in addition to surfing, and expects an estimated 2,400 exhibitors at this year’s show. Exhibitors include beach clothes, tanning products, surfboard and skateboard retailers and repair shops, travel agencies, hotels, surfing and skateboarding associations, and more.

El Salvador, the only country exhibitor present, will have a booth at the show for the second straight year. The promotional amount invested to attend the tradeshow is $9,000.

This year, SurfExpo attendees will be able to admire footage from the 2nd Surf Latin Pro Championship, held last year on the coast of Puerto de La Libertad, which will be shown on the plasma television in the Salvadoran 18 square meter booth.

Many international champions participated in the championship and praised the waves’ length, height, left and right turns, as well as the tropical climate that prevails on Salvadoran coasts throughout the year.

Besides having two of the best surfing beaches in the world, El Salvador will present itself as a country that has one of the 25 best adventure packages in the world, as published in the year-end issue of National Geographic Adventure Magazine.

We will also show a television special on surfing, created and aired by the ESPN sports channel. Both of these videos will give greater credibility to El Salvador as a surfing destination.
