Italy’s flag carrier airline scales back and beefs up

Italy’s flag carrier airline, Alitalia, has announced it is scaling back on some flights while beefing up on others.

On March 26, Alitalia will end its three-times daily flights for Rome-Reggio di Calabria.

From the opposing side of the swinging pendulum, the airline will begin flights on a Rome-New York JFK route. This seasonal route schedule will begin during the fall from September 10 to October 22 on Sundays.

The name of the airline, Alitalia, means wings (ali) of Italy (Italia).

Its main hub is at Leonardo da Vinci-Fiumicino Airport in Rome, with a secondary hub in Milan Linate Airport. The airline’s head office is located in Fiumicino, Rome, Italy.
