US Travel Association President and CEO Roger Dow issued the following statement welcoming Sen. Dean Heller (R-NV) to his new position as co-chair of the Senate Travel and Tourism Caucus:

“I extend my heartiest congratulations to Sen. Heller, a true travel champion who has time and again worked to ensure that Congress remains attuned to the needs and priorities of travel and travelers.

“Sen. Heller has shone in legislative efforts to promote travel to the U.S. Attracting more international visitors to our country is crucial to America’s economic health, since international visitation directly supports more than 1.1 million jobs and fuels communities with billions of dollars in spending and tax revenue. Sen. Heller has shown great initiative in this cause, notably co-sponsoring the bill that established our nation’s first dedicated destination marketing organization, Brand USA.

“U.S. Travel has long valued Sen. Heller’s work on growing travel to and within the U.S., including his advocacy on behalf of our Open Skies agreements, his support for modernizing our country’s travel infrastructure and his introduction of common-sense measures to ensure the value and taxpayer cost-effectiveness of government travel. He has been a key member of the Senate Travel and Tourism Caucus for years, and last year earned a Distinguished Travel Champion award from our organization.

“Sen. Heller joins a highly effective, bipartisan team of caucus co-chairs, including fellow travel champions Sens. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), Roy Blunt (R-MO) and Brian Schatz (D-HI). We look forward to working with Sen. Heller in his new capacity, continuing the excellent rapport we have established with his fellow co-chairs and committee members.”
