Cornwall Airport Newquay (CAN) has announced another development within its route network just one week into 2017, confirming that Aer Lingus Regional, operated by Stobart Air, will launch a new connection to Cork. Set to commence on 6 May, the twice-weekly seasonal service will utilise the carrier’s 72-seat ATR-72, adding 35 flights to CAN’s summer schedule.

Joining the airline’s existing service to Dublin from Cornwall, Aer Lingus Regional’s new link to Southern Ireland will result in the Irish flag carrier seeing a 31% increase in weekly flights and seats from CAN. The launch of the 290-kilometre sector will further establish Ireland as the third largest country market served from Cornwall during S17.

Commenting on the latest route development, Al Titterington, Managing Director, Cornwall Airport Newquay, said: “What a fantastic start to the year we’re experiencing here in Cornwall! Aer Lingus Regional’s announcement really is an exciting addition to our route network and our flourishing partnership with the airline. Given that the UK is Ireland’s largest market for inbound tourism and that Cornwall is the UK’s number one tourism destination, this new link can only serve as a boost for both regions’ tourism industries.”

Martin Saxton, CCO, Stobart Air added: “The addition of Cork reflects the ongoing success of our route network and our services from Cornwall. We’re keen to provide value, choice and key connections for our customers and are confident this route will be a very popular destination for summer 2017.”
