Slovak Republic and Seychelles: New air traffic agreement under discussion

“Our people like to spend their summer by the sea, and Seychelles is a beautiful place to spend the holiday,” said the new Ambassador of Slovak Republic to the Seychelles, František Dlhopolček.

“Our people like to spend their summer by the sea, and Seychelles is a beautiful place to spend the holiday,” said the new Ambassador of Slovak Republic to the Seychelles, František Dlhopolček.

Seychelles and the Slovak Republic are discussing the signing of an air traffic agreement with the aim of increasing the number of Slovakian tourists to the island nation, the new ambassador says.

The new ambassador made the statement to reporters after presenting his accreditation letter to Seychelles President James Michel at State House on Tuesday.

“The cheapest way of transporting tourists is to organize charter planes,” said Dlhopolček.

The ambassador said that over the past three years, the number of Slovakian tourists to Seychelles has increased from a few hundred to over 1,000.

Dlhopolček added that Seychellois students will continue to benefit from tertiary education in Slovakia, as his country intends to continue cooperation in this area.

Other possible areas of cooperation discussed are agriculture, industry, and protection of the environment.

According to Dlhopolček, as a member of the European Union (EU), the Slovak Republic can act as a voice for Seychelles in the EU should there be the need.

“There are many things that can be solved through the members of the EU. If you have issues to discuss with the EU, we can always listen to you and support or help you,” said Dlhopolček.

During his visit at the State House, Dlhopolček also paid a courtesy call on Danny Faure, Seychelles’ Vice President, where discussion focused on the lack of official visits by Seychellois to Slovakia.

“So far on the official basis, we have had very few visits. It was only the speaker of the Parliament who visited Slovakia two years ago. It was the only visit in the last 25 years,” said Dlhopolček.

The new Ambassador of Slovak Republic to Seychelles will be based in Nairobi, Kenya.
