Brussels Comic Strip Festival: 90,000 attending

More than 90,000 people are at the seventh edition of the Brussels Comic Strip Festival.

The Brussels Comic Strip Festival, which was in full swing in the European capital since Friday afternoon, ended on a very positive note this Sunday evening. Brussels has once again earned its title of capital of the ninth art.

The Comic Strip Festival set a new record this year with 6,000 square meters of marquees installed in the Parc de Bruxelles. Within these tents, more than 200 cartoonists, 35 French and Dutch publishing houses and a dozen regions within the international pavilion, welcoming Québec as guest of honour this year, were present.

On Sunday, the two classics of the Brussels Comic Strip Festival entertained the masses. The Balloon Day Parade with its giant comic book heroes marched through the streets of Brussels marvelling young and old. The walk of Tintin, Spirou, Le Cat but also the robot BB8, the new feature this year, was followed by 25.000 people.
On the other hand, the Journal Tintin Rally with its 50 participating cars straight from the Journal Tintin between 1946 and 1993, followed a comic journey passing by the Hergé Museum in Louvain-La-Neuve and ending at the Place des Palais in Brussels in the early afternoon. The public had the opportunity to admire these extraordinary cars while a jury attributed prizes to the most resembling vehicles and crews to the originals drawings.

On the occasion of this festive weekend, all of Brussels was dressed up in the colours of the ninth art. Even Brussels’ most famous ‘ket’ Manneken-Pis had put on his Spirou costume! While guided tours were taking comic lovers on foot or by bike throughout Brussels two small trains travelled between the not to be missed comic spots of the Region. With the Comic Pass visitors could (re)discover the MOOF, the Museum of comics and other essential jewels of the ninth art present in the Brussels-Capital Region.
