Another blast was recorded in one of Thailand’s busiest resort cities of Phuket. No reports of injuries are deaths are known.

Today is Mother’s Day in Thailand. Mother’s Day is also Queen Sirikit’s birthday, regarded as a mother to all Thai people, and observed as a Thai national holiday. This year, Mother’s Day may be remembered as a day of deadly bombings.

Surat Thani (often shortened to as Surat) is the largest province of South Thailand. Surat Thani means “City of Good People,” the title given to the city by King Vajiravudh (Rama VI). It’s a gateway to the islands of Thailand’s Gulf Coast: Ko Samui, Ko Pha Ngan and Ko Tao. They are much-visited destinations, as well as Ang Thong National Marine Park.

Foreign tourists and expats in Thailand should be vigilant being in public areas. Thais should report anything suspicious immediately.
