The diverse program kicked off with the โ€œBazaar Barbaronsโ€ on Saturday, July 30, where invited guests attended the official opening by Mr. Alain St. Ange, Minister for Tourism and Culture. This initiative saw the participation of several artisans, vendors, painters, and traditional cooks from the region of Grand Anse and Barbarons where the hotel is located. This was peppered by a repertoire of song and dance that provided the audience with a glimpse of the countryโ€™s folklore.

The resortโ€™s stunning pool area was the venue that hosted the various stalls offering a wide variety of โ€œMade in Seychellesโ€ products ranging from handicrafts, clothing, fruits and vegetables, to culinary delicacies and home-brewed beverages.

Delivering his opening speech in the presence of several dignitaries and invited guests, Minister St. Ange complimented Avani Seychelles Resortโ€™s initiative as the true blend of tourism and culture:

โ€œSelling sun, sea, and sand is just not enough to promote Seychelles within the world tourism market, and this is why it is essential to showcase our heritage through numerous activities such as the Bazaar Barbarbons,โ€ he said.

Stephane Vilar, the proud General Manager of the hotel, congratulated all the participants of this first installment: โ€œWe wanted to showcase that Seychelles is not just beautiful islands, but also has a lot to offer in terms of gastronomy, culture, and agriculture. We want to try and bring back good memories from the past. Barbarons used to be a lively place, and such a bazaar will help the tourists and local community to discover the true traditions of Seychelles,โ€ Mr. Vilar said.

The hotel guests also thoroughly enjoyed the evening, as it permitted them to sample all the different local traditional dishes in a bazaar setting, while browsing the handicraft stalls seeking the locally-made souvenirs to take home, and being entertained by the authentic sounds from the islands.

In the next couple of weeks, Avani Seychelles will launch more events to complement its already successful Sunday Brunch with a Creole Cabaret and a Seychelles Jazz Night.
