INDIA (eTN) – India is stressing the importance of promoting and catering to tourism growth for the country, in an effort to propel supply and demand in the industry.

Tourism Secretary Vinod Zutshi told a tourism investors meeting on July 28 in New Delhi that if there was a mismatch between supply and demand, the quality of service will suffer.

The gap in infrastructure must be filled, he said, adding that steps were being taken by his ministry and other ministries to improve services for tourists in all sectors, including roads, railways, and air.

An โ€œIndia: Incredible Tourism Summitโ€ is planned for September 21-23 of this year. The investors meeting was organized by the FICCI-Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry.

Seven states took part, and they listed the areas where investment was required. Rajasthan Madhya Pradesh, Chattisgarh, Delhi, Punjab were among the states which sought investments for projects.

A study on โ€œInvestment in Tourism Infrastructure – Unleashing the Growth Potential,โ€ was released on the occasion. It was completed by FICCI and Yes Bank.
