MUNICH, Germany (eTN) โ€“ eTurboNews correspondent Elisabeth Lang reported live from Munich, saying that so much is happening so quickly and there is great confusion in the city. Unlike other places in Europe, this is a completely new situation for Germany. It is not confirmed and not clear if it this is an extremist attack or something else.

All roads and highways leading out of north of Munich have been closed. Public transport has been completely shut down, and the Munich Railway Station Hauptbahnhof is closed. Traffic has come to a complete standstill, and the man hunt is ongoing.

Border security has been installed, with nearest border to Austria 120 km away.

People are closed up in beer halls and were told to stay safe inside. Residents have been told to stay home.

People in Munich have opened their doors to all of those who cannot go home or are stranded, and hotels and guest houses are doing the same. Munich Residenz, the former royal palace of the Bavarian monarchs of the House of Wittelsbach located in the center of the city of Munich and Maximilianeum, the building for Parliament, is hosting people overnight.

Doctors and hospital staff have been called back to work to be available on stand-by.

The Tollwood Summer Festival was due to take place in the city on Friday night, but police confirmed the event has since been cancelled and urged people to avoid places with large crowds.

Mme. Angela Merkel, Chancellor of Germany, is on holiday and has not been heard from yet, however, Germany Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere is on his way back from holiday in the USA and should arrive by tomorrow.

The Munich Police seem to be overrun. Special forces are being flown in to assist them, arriving later tonight. One of the perpetrators might be dead but the situation is still unclear, and the reason for the shooting is not known. There is the fear and worry over what is going on and the uncertainties of the situation.
