Corinthia Hotels, the international collection of luxury hotels, has launched its new “Portraits of a City” video series, capturing the brand’s destination cities as they are seen through the eyes of local artists from different creative disciplines. Starting in Lisbon, the brand worked with a chef, an artist, a fado singer, and a fashion designer – all leaders in their fields in Lisbon. Corinthia Hotels intend to grow the campaign with ‘Portraits’ of all their destination cities, including St Petersburg, London, Prague, Budapest, Malta.
This initiative builds on the success of Corinthia Hotels’ ‘Corinthia Insider’ blog, which offers organic and unique content around trends and activities in Corinthia’s destination cities. The Corinthia Insider offers travellers insider access – information, tips, and stories – on their destination cities. The blog is live here.

In the newly-created videos, well-known artists were invited to talk about ‘their’ Lisbon: what is important to them about their city and what inspires and motivates them, and how they translate the love for their city into their work. Filming took place in key areas in Lisbon including Principe Real, Alfama District, Chiado and Guicho Beach, Parede, and Barro Alto.

The chosen personalities are leading creatives in Lisbon, well known for their particular craft both nationally and internationally. They represent Lisbon’s modern day culture, and embody Corinthia’s ‘Craftsmanship of Care’ ethos, sharing the brand values of Precision, Understanding, Passion, Authenticity. They are ambassadors to the city and present the city through their roles as ‘Craftsmen’.

Taking the lead as destination insiders Corinthia Hotels have created a powerful social media campaign by developing: unique video content, on-line competitions to win a stay for 2 people for 2 nights at Corinthia Hotel Lisbon, online newsletters to reinforce the video stories, and events at the hotel with the local artists and leaders of Lisbon’s tourism sector. The video series will be launched digitally via The Corinthia Insider emailer and socially via YouTube and Facebook, and can be viewed here.

The ‘Lisbon Insiders’ showcased in the video series are:

1. Chef Jose Avillez is considered one of the great Portuguese chefs, with five restaurants in Lisbon and one in Oporto; each offering different culinary experiences, but all expressing his enormous passion for cooking. His most famous restaurant, Belcanto, has been distinguished with two Michelin stars and elected one of the best 100 restaurants in the world.

His work has been exhibited in 36 one-man shows, and is displayed in various national embassies and museums worldwide, including in Lisbon’s National Museum of Natural History and Science. 3. Fado singer Maria Ana Bobone is unanimously recognised as one of the best of her generation’s fadistas: her voice, and the distinctive way she performs her craft, are unique. Maria Ana, an MTV linked artist since 2013, follows a completely new artistic path, switching from the Portuguese to the electric guitars, writing her own songs and exploring musical languages like jazz, country and even pop-rock. Maria Ana performs regularly at numerous festivals and concert halls throughout the world, presenting Fado Music and Portuguese culture to other peoples.

His fashion shows are crowd favourites, not only for the quality of design, but also for their surprises. His presence is regularly requested at important ceremonies and media events. In fact, in 1996, he was awarded a Golden Globe as ‘Personality of the Year’. He is a champion of Portuguese heritage in all aspects of his work and one of Portugal’s brightest stars today.
