Known among tourists: Hayden Pass evacuated in Colorado due to uncontrollable wildfire

Sunday authorities ordered mandatory evacuation for a 5,000-acre Hayden Pass stretch. Wilrfire has been burning in Fremont County, Colorado.

The fire was caused by a lightning strike Friday, according to the Forest Service, and grew exponentially to about 5,104 acres Sunday afternoon.

About 20 homes in the area are under evacuation notices, according to the Bureau of Land Management U.S. Forest Service required an evacuation of Hayden Creek Campground, also known as Cutty’s, on Fremont County Road 6.
 
 

This Colorado trail is known to visitors and tourists alike.
There are very few trails in the beautiful Sangre de Cristo mountains and Hayden Pass is a nice one connecting one valley to the other. It is steep on both sides, with rocky areas.

This is a good way to get from the Denver area over to Alamosa and the valley on the other side. The trail starts from Coaldale on pavement that soon turns to a wide, smooth dirt road.

The Hayden Campground is about five miles in and is a good place to air down at the trailhead. The trail starts on the left at the beginning of the camping spots. It starts uphill right away.
