The southwestern Ugandan town of Kabale, located strategically near the two gorilla national parks and close to the border at Katuna with Rwanda, is now finally set to get an airfield to link it to the international airport in Entebbe or the Kajjansi aerodrome.

Apparently, the Civil Aviation Authority has approved the construction of the field, which will be located a few kilometers outside the town along the main road to Kisoro, and it is understood that it will be a private initiative rather than paid for by government or the CAA. The new airfield is expected to boost both tourism and business travel by air, as a drive from Kampala can take most of the day for the over 400 kilometers, and will add a new dimension to upcountry travel when completed.
