“It is an honor for Seychelles that you have been chosen a high-level COMESA post. We are very proud of you and your work. I wish you every success in your new role and hope that you take the opportunity for creating new avenues for development for Seychelles,” said President Mr. Michel, commenting on Seychellois Mrs. Lanka Dorby’s recent appointment.

Seychelles President James Michel congratulated Mrs. Dorby on her appointment to the post of Director for Information and Networking at the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA). She is leaving her post of Director General for Information Technology in the Department of Information Communication Technology at the end of this month.

Mrs. Dorby met with the President this morning at State House, where the President thanked her for her hard work and professionalism in her 25 years as a public servant in the Seychelles government, including 10 years in the Department of Information Communication Technology.

Mrs. Dorby thanked the President for his support and said that she would promote the Seychelles’ best practice and achievements in the ICT sector. “We need to help COMESA member states to achieve regional integration using ICT as a tool… Not all member states are at the same level… Seychelles is one of the best in the region for ICT. We are strong, we use ICT to the maximum,” said Mrs. Dorby during the meeting.

Also present during the meeting were the Principal Secretary for ICT, Mr. Benjamin Choppy, and the Director General for Development and Regional Integration in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Transport, Mr. Kenneth Racombo.

Mrs. Lanka Dorby will take up the COMESA post on July 1, 2016, in Lusaka, Zambia.

Prior to her work as Director General for Information Technology, she was the Director of Health Information and Information Technology at the Ministry of Health. She also worked as a senior analyst programmer in the Department of Public Administration. Mrs. Dorby was born in Sri Lanka and is a naturalized Seychellois citizen.
