The latest information available from Kigali about the intended deployment of RwandAir’s first Airbus A330-200 now suggests that it will be Dubai which is to be served nonstop out of Kigali four times a week. The remaining three frequencies, according to a source close to the airline, will continue to route via Mombasa where RwandAir enjoys fifth freedom rights on all sectors in and out of Kenya’s port city.

The first wide-body will join the fleet in September this year while a second A330, a larger -300 variant, will then, according to the same source, begin to serve Mumbai and Guangzhou combined.

It could not be confirmed if both India and China will grant fifth freedom rights for this operation.

This means that the initially anticipated routing from Kigali via Dar es Salaam to Mumbai will make way for a Kigali-Mumbai-Guangzhou operation.

No information, however, was available about earlier plans by RwandAir to also fly to Europe when the second A330 is delivered.
