XIAMEN, China and HONG KONG – Genting Hong Kong and Xiamen University held a special ceremony to unveil the new Lim Goh Tong Building, the academic and research centre of the School of Management’s Tourism and Hotel Management Department.

As part of the company’s continuing support to nurture tourism professionals, Genting Hong Kong, a leading global leisure, entertainment and hospitality company, made a donation to Xiamen University to build the first teaching hotel in a top tier educational institution.

Named in honor of Tan Sri Lim Goh Tong, the late founder of Genting Group, the event was attended by his son, Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay, Chairman of Genting Hong Kong; Mr. Zhang Yan, Secretary of Party Committee of Xiamen University, Mr. Yang Hui, Secretary of Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of Fujian Province, officials from Xiamen Tourism Bureau, as well as professors and students from Xiamen University.

“I am extremely proud to witness the completion of the Lim Goh Tong Building today as it has always been my father’s wish to contribute to our hometown and the community,” said Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay. “Through the establishment of China’s first teaching hotel in a top level tertiary educational institution – the Lim Goh Tong Building, built to honour my late father – we hope to support Xiamen University in cultivating the next generation of tourism professionals and talent to further contribute to the development of this industry sector in China and in the region.”

“The Lim Goh Tong Building is of great significance to Xiamen University because this marks the establishment of our very own academic and research centre for the Tourism and Hotel Management Department. It is our vision for Xiamen University’s School of Management to learn from Genting Group’s great experience and long history in hotel management and turn this facility into a platform to nurture a new wave of tourism students to better serve the community and to contribute to China’s economy,” said Mr. Zhang Yan, Secretary of Party Committee of Xiamen University.

The new Lim Goh Tong Building, Academic and Research Center of the School of Hotel Management is located at the South Entrance of the University. For the design concept of the Lim Goh Tong Building, the structure incorporates stylistic cues of “Jiajing” architecture and combines both Chinese and Western elements with finesse, but also with a modern twist.
