Star Alliance Air China Flight from Washington to Beijing had engine problems. The captain did not take any risk and decided to declare an emergency and landed the Boeing 777 with 300 people on board safely in the Canadian city of Winnipeg, Manitoba Saturday evening at 8.30pm

Passenger were put up in local area hotels after they cleared customs.

Air China is sending a replacement aircraft and the flight is due to continue on a new plane Sunday afternoon.

Local airport crews were ready for the landing as this type of situation happens fairly often because of Winnipeg’s geographical location

The aircraft landed and was able to taxi to the terminal on its own power. Mechanics in Winnipeg are still inspecting the plane.
