In the Canadian province Saskatchewan’s nearly 2500 restaurants, bars and caterers were pleased that Finance Minister Kevin Doherty’s restraint budget did not include increased taxes or fees that would have further impacted the industry’s already-tight margins.

“Given the challenges presented by the province’s $1.1 billion drop in revenues, we appreciate the approach Minister Doherty has taken in this budget,” said Restaurants Canada’s Manitoba-Saskatchewan Vice President Dwayne Marling. “Restaurateurs are among the first to feel the pinch when the economy tightens, so we welcome the decision not to increase taxes and fees that would have negatively impacted the operations of Saskatchewan’s restaurants, bars and caterers.”

Restaurants Canada is a growing community of 30,000 foodservice businesses, including restaurants, bars, caterers, institutions and suppliers. We connect our members from coast to coast, through services, research and advocacy for a strong and vibrant restaurant industry. Saskatchewan’s restaurant industry directly employs 38,300 residents and has total annual sales of $2.3 billion.
