Evacuated: Grand Hyatt New York midnight emergency

It has been reported to eTN that Grand Hyatt New York at Grand Central Station experienced an emergency evacuation.

It has been reported to eTN that Grand Hyatt New York at Grand Central Station experienced an emergency evacuation. All of the hotel guests had to use the stairs in their night clothes and robes to get outside the hotel.

An eTN German reporter who is staying in a room on the 22nd floor said the alarms started going off, and she had to walk down the 22 flights of stairs to get to the street.

Guests were let back into the hotel at 11:40 pm, with the front desk confirming that it was merely a test.

The hotel operator was not available during the emergency and Hyatt Central reservation had no information. eTN was later informed a fire alarm was triggered by a guest in error and caused the alarm system to initiate. According to a Hyatt spokesperson the safety of guests are the highest priority and without knowing the cause of the alarm an evacuation is mandatory.

In the meantime all guests are back in their rooms.
