MIAMI – An American Airlines flight to Chicago landed safely in Miami on Friday after being diverted with nose gear trouble.

Flight 862 landed at Miami International Airport around 3:45 p.m. It had taken off from West Palm Beach but soon had trouble.

Pilots of the MD-80 jet burned off fuel as a precaution before landing. Airport spokesman Greg Chin saids there were about 130 people aboard the plane.

In North Dakota, meanwhile, the Air Force said a B-52 bomber made an emergency landing at the Minot airport because of aircraft malfunctions and deteriorating weather.

The aircraft landed safely early Friday morning.

The nation’s B-52s operate out of Minot Air Force Base, several miles northwest of the city airport, and Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisiana.

A Barksdale-based crew was on a training mission when it declared the in-flight emergency.

The Air Force would not elaborate on the malfunctions.
