Greenwich Village, New York, is a popular trendy neighborhood in Manhattan and frequented not only by New Yorkers, but tourists from all corners of the globe.
It’s also the birthplace of America’s modern gay liberation movement.
US President Obama wants this Manhattan area to become the first national gay monument in an area surrounded by a gay bar and narrow streets that have long been regarded as the historic center of gay cultural life in New York City.
Subject to upcoming hearings, Obama is prepared to designate the area part of the National Park Service as soon as next month, which commemorates gay pride.
