Ecuador earthquake update

eTurboNews received an update from Latin Trails located in the Galapagos islands of Ecuador, which we would like to share with our readers:

Dear Friends,

eTurboNews received an update from Latin Trails located in the Galapagos islands of Ecuador, which we would like to share with our readers:

Dear Friends,

First of all we would like to thank you for your sympathy with the Latin Trails team and the citizens of Ecuador. We have received many messages of concern asking about the current situation.

As known, there was a 7.8 earthquake off the coast of Ecuador that seriously affected some coastal cities; in the Andes this event was felt in less intensity. However, due to location, the Galapagos Islands, was not affected in terms of operation and safety.

We can confirm that all guests and staff in our ships are OK and they will continue with their scheduled itineraries as normal.

Quito-Guayaquil-Cuenca-Otavalo-Baรฑos-Riobamba and other Andean and amazon guests’ activities and main attractions continue with their normal operations and itineraries.

Our ships in Galapagos are operating normally and will continue with the visits to the islands as planned. All Ecuador`s airports are back to regular operations except the airport in Manta which is open only to receive flights with humanitarian aid.

The authorities are working to reestablish communications with the cities that have been more affected. Therefore, a state of exception has been declared by the President only in the provinces of Esmeraldas, Los Rios, Manabรญ, Santo Domingo, Santa Elena and Southern Guayas. It is worthy to mention that this state has been declared to help those affected, the remaining provinces continue with their normal scheduled activities.

It is in times like this that we as a country must support local industries such as tourism, that is why we encourage you to support tour operators. We must remember that tourism is one of the few industries that has a higher multiplier effect in the country; providing employment and economic stability to the country.

We will remain in contact with our guests and will keep you updated.

Any questions please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Sincerely,
Your Latin Trails Team
