WASHINGTON, DC – “Although the approval took over two years, today’s decision paves the way for NAI’s pro-competitive, low-cost transatlantic service,” said Business Travel Coalition (BTC) Chairman Kevin Mitchell, commenting on the proposed approval today by the US Department of Transportation’s (DOT) to approval a foreign air carrier permit for Norwegian Air.
The decision, which was validated by the Departments of Justice and State, makes clear that Article 17 is not a factor in granting a foreign air carrier permit, and that Norwegian has met all conditions for issuance of its permit.
“Consumers will be the notable beneficiaries of this pro-competitive development with new air travel choices and alternatives,” added Mitchell.
Foreign carrier new entry has become essential for restoring a semblance of competition for consumers on both sides of the Atlantic.
