ACAPULCO, Mexico – The Mexican resort of Acapulco presented its revamped tourism offer at Seatrade Cruise Global in Fort Lauderdale, March 14 – 17. The event served as Acapulco’s platform to boast about its 2015 success in the cruise sector, its services, off-shore experiences, improved infrastructure and to showcase its culture and history. During the event, the Seattle-based Holland America Lines, confirmed its return to the port in 2017 with two new cruise ships and promises to bring approximately 5,000 new cruisers to the destination.

In 2015, Acapulco duplicated the amount of cruise arrivals, which generated an increase of 121% in the amount of international cruisers, compared to 2014. Americans – the largest group of cruisers to arrive to the destination that year– represented 70% of the total visitors.

“Our promotional strategy, which consisted of participation in numerous cruise-industry conferences, improvements on Acapulco’s infrastructure, and negotiations with major cruise lines led the success that we are experiencing,” said Pedro Haces Sordo, president of the Acapulco Destination Marketing Office. “Acapulco is gaining momentum in the cruise sector with the arrival of award-wining ships and thousands of international tourists.”

Since the revival of the cruise industry in Acapulco in 2014, no security incidents involving tourists have been reported. However, with the goal of maintaining a safe environment for tourists, the destination created a local Cruise Committee composed of the State of Guerrero’s Tourism Ministry, the Municipal Tourism Ministry, Acapulco’s Marketing Office, port authorities, DMC operators, Federal Police and the Public Safety Ministry. The Tourist Information and Assistance Center, CAPTA, was also developed to provide resources and assistance to visitors.
