Historic Hotels of America 2016 Awards of Excellence nominations open

WASHINGTON, DC – Historic Hotels of America is accepting nominations for its 2016 Awards of Excellence. As the official program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, Historic Hotels of America demonstrates to the global cultural, heritage, and historic travel industry that these honorees and winners are among the finest historic hotels and historic hotels hoteliers across America. The Awards of Excellence recognizes the pinnacle of this distinct group of nominees in a number of categories. Awards of Excellence winners will be announced and recipients will be honored on November 3, 2016 at the Historic Hotels of America Annual 2016 Awards Ceremony and Gala Dinner. These prestigious awards are treasured by historic hotels and their hoteliers. Award winners receive annual recognition, promotion, and the prestige from having been selected from a prestigious collection of historic hotels. There were more than 150 nominees for the Historic Hotels of America 2015 Awards of Excellence.

Nominations are being accepted for Historic Hotels of America Awards of Excellence in various categories, including but not limited to: Best Historic Hotel (ranging in size), Best Historic Resort, Legendary Family Historic Hoteliers of the Year, Best Historic Restaurant in Conjunction with a Historic Hotel, New Member of the Year, and many others. Nominations from fellow hoteliers, industry and local community leaders are encouraged. Nominations from travel writers, historians, educators, history students, travel editors, and historic preservationists are welcomed also. Additionally, this year, the awards program will be extended to include nomination categories for Historic Hotels Worldwide. Historic Hotels of Worldwide is the official program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation (United States of America) for recognizing and celebrating the finest Historic Hotels around the globe. Historic Hotels Worldwide promotes heritage and cultural travel by featuring a prestigious collection of historic treasures, including historic hotels, castles, chateaus, palaces, academies, haciendas, villas, monasteries, and other historic lodging spanning more than 10 centuries across the globe.

To be nominated, the hotel must be a member of Historic Hotels of America or Historic Hotels Worldwide. Nominations will be accepted online through July 31, 2016 at HistoricHotels.org/awards. A panel of experts judge and weigh the nominees in each category with multiple judges scoring each entry. Points will then be added cumulatively and an average score will be determined. All tabulation will be done by officials of Historic Hotels of America and kept confidential.

The 2016 award winning hotels will be announced during the Annual Awards Ceremony and Gala Dinner at the culmination of the Historic Hotels of America and Historic Hotels Worldwide 2016 Annual Conference at The Royal Hawaiian, A Luxury Collection Resort (1927) in Honolulu, Hawaii. Awards will be presented to winners before an audience of owners, senior management, industry leaders, and representatives from the finest historic hotels and invited media. Sponsorship categories for the gala are available.

The Historic Hotels of America 2016 Annual Awards Ceremony and Gala Dinner will take place at The Royal Hawaiian, A Luxury Collection Resort in Honolulu, Hawaii on November 3, 2016 at 7 pm.

The 2015 Annual Awards Ceremony and Gala Dinner was held at West Baden Springs Hotel.
