WASHINGTON, DC – The US Travel Association on Wednesday will welcome over 300 travel industry leaders from 40 states to Washington as part of its annual legislative fly-in, Destination Capitol Hill. The two-day event is dedicated to spotlighting for policymakers the travel industry’s role as one of the country’s strongest economic sectors.

Over 295 congressional meetings are scheduled for Thursday, March 17.
Attendees will urge Congress to embrace policies that are pro-growth, pro-competition and pro-traveler. Top-of-mind issues include: restoring choices to the overconsolidated U.S. airline sector; modernizing air and surface transportation infrastructure to keep pace with demand; and ensuring the U.S. remains a welcoming destination for overseas visitors while maintaining strong national security.

“The next two days are about celebrating travel’s essential economic contribution, and the need for pro-growth policies that keep travelers safely and efficiently moving to and within our country,” said U.S. Travel Association President and CEO Roger Dow.

On the first day of Destination Capitol Hill events, U.S. Travel will also present its annual Distinguished Travel Partner awards, which recognize government and travel industry decision-makers who have demonstrated exceptional leadership in advancing policies that strengthen travel to and across the U.S. This year’s winners, as previously announced, are:

โ€ข Distinguished Travel Champions Sen. Dean Heller (R-Nev.), Sen. Brian Schatz (D-Hawaii), Rep. David Jolly (R-Fla.), Rep. Dina Titus (D-Nev.), and U.S. Customs and Border Protection Deputy Commissioner Kevin K. McAleenan;

โ€ข Distinguished Travel Ally Julie Heizer, Deputy Director of Industry Relations, U.S. Department of Commerce, National Travel and Tourism Office; and

โ€ข Grassroots Travel Champion Great Lakes Bay Regional Convention and Visitors Bureau, led by Annette Rummel, Ph.D.
