Europe has continuously been eyed as a significant market to the Thai tourism industry despite the economic impact.

Europe has continuously been eyed as a significant market to the Thai tourism industry despite the economic impact. This is underlined by the Tourism Authority of Thailand’s (TAT) strategic plan to open a new office in Prague, the Czech Republic.

The TAT Prague Office is scheduled to open in August, this year, and will join the TAT’s current network of 35 offices in Thailand and 27 offices overseas.

Mr. Yuthasak Supasorn, TAT Governor announced the plan to open the TAT Prague Office at ITB 2016, stating that, “The German and European markets remain very important to us because they have the highest length of stay, more than twice the overall average. However, in line with our new strategy to stress a ‘Quality Leisure Destination, we will need to find ways to improve the tourism products and overall travelling experiences to European visitors.”

Also, TAT plans to open a permanent new office in Prague to tap the potential of the Eastern Europe markets (Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, and Ukraine). This is line with the strategy to target the emerging source markets within Europe.

“We have seen the prospective sign and a strong growth in Eastern Europe. So, the office in Prague has been established to specifically oversee this growing market in order to uphold Thailand as a quality getaway to tourists in this region,” added Mr. Yuthasak.

For this year, TAT will also be holding a Thailand Mini Mart to provide closer networking opportunities for 36 sellers to meet exclusively with 40 buyers. This will be the first stage that Thai tour operators will discuss business prospects with Eastern Europe tourism operators.

Last year, visitor arrivals from the Eastern Europe market totalled at 364,967. This injected revenue of 636.67 million Euros (25.33 billion Baht) into the Thai tourism industry, an increase by 9.7 percent.
