SUVA, Fiji – Fiji can attract more Chinese tourists into the country but for this to happen, certain mechanisms need to be in place.

Yan Xunlei, the economic and commercial counsellor at the Chinese Embassy in Suva, believes the Government is doing a lot to attract tourists to the country, but he said the number could increase further.

“Fiji is a very beautiful place and I know that many Chinese people would love to come here for the holidays,” said Mr Yan.

“I know that the Government has done a lot already but I believe that if certain things were done, the number of Chinese tourists could increase significantly.

“One example is to have instructions written in Chinese at airports to make it much easier for them. Something else that could be done is to increase the number of interpreters.”

Mr Yan said more direct flights from Fiji to China could also be an added attraction for Chinese tourists.

“It would be good to get more direct flights to China because that would also make it easier.”

Fiji Airways has only one direct flight to Hong Kong.
